Listening to the oldest generation
I’ve often lamented my failure to talk with my dad more frequently. You know how it is. You always think you have more time. When I was a young man in my 20s, my dad was diagnosed with cancer. Even then, I thought I had more time. There were still many questions I wanted to ask him. There were still many conversations I planned to have with him. Dad died two months after his diagnosis. I am an old man now. I am a baby boomer. I love it when my sons and grandchildren ask me about the “old days” when I was younger. I wish I had been more intentional in asking my dad about his old days.
Don’t fear boomers! How Poland is celebrating its old people – and making life better for every age
While the rest of Europe worries about a ‘silver tsunami’ or ‘demographic bomb’, the cities of Wrocław and Kraków are treating their ageing populations as an opportunity rather than a burden – with remarkable results.
The movies that defined the baby boom generation
It would be impossible to make a comprehensive list of “Boomer movies.” The subcultures, countercultures, and various clashes therein are too many. Nonetheless, there are the more obvious universally beloved or influential works that, broadly speaking, defined how this generation saw itself… as well as how their children and grandchildren might reinterpret their heyday. So without further ado here are some of the movies that defined the baby boomers.
Baby boomers are creating an opportunity for senior living
As the baby boom generation transitions from adult children of older adults to senior living residents themselves — the oldest boomers are turning 78 this year — the expectations for senior living communities are evolving. Although change is inevitable, this new generation has different expectations. They want more, and are willing to pay more, for an all-inclusive lifestyle with elevated levels of personalized service and five-star amenities.
How inheritances are reshaping the property market
Baby boomers differ from their parents – the Builders Generation (sometimes also referred to as the Silent Generation) – who typically had a more conservative mindset. Staying in the family home until they passed away was the norm, meaning inheritances were typically delivered in one-time lump sums. But Baby Boomers are more agile. Many have now sold the family home and downsized, and deployed sizeable chunks of their capital already, either in the form of deposits or as loan guarantors for not only the next in line, but the following generation as well.
